How to Remove Red Wine Stains from Your Sofa

Wine is among the five substances that most affect sofas at home, in restaurants, and in hotels. Parties, corporate events, banquets are not complete without this drink. In the festive bustle, it often spills on sofas, covering the upholstery with careless and stubborn stains. The most difficult dirt on sofas, armchairs, and chairs includes red wine.

Wine is soluble in water. Upholstery damaged by it should be cleaned immediately, before the stains have dried. The chances of them disappearing without a trace will be much greater. It is more difficult to remove dry and old stains, and the result is not always happy. With such contamination, it is best to contact specialists who specialize in wet cleaning of sofas and any other home and office furniture. Otherwise, the stains may remain in place despite all efforts, nerves, and wasted time.

Why are wine stains difficult to remove from upholstery?

The color of red wines is due to the peculiarities of the chemical composition of the berries, and the difficulty in removing the stains is due to the structure of the fibers and fabrics. When textiles with high hygroscopicity (wool, silk, cotton fabrics) are involved, the liquid quickly absorbs into the fibers. In this case, the pigment dyes them from the inside. While the stain is still wet, it can be washed with water. Although in the case of upholstery, this is not easy.

IMPORTANT: If you notice spilled wine on the sofa, immediately take a dry cloth or disposable paper towels. Dry the upholstery as best you can to prevent the liquid from seeping deeply. The movements should be from top to bottom and from the edges of the spot towards the center. This will prevent the liquid from spreading over a larger area.

It is difficult to remove wine residues from fabrics with pile or embossed (jacquard, tapestry, flock, velour, velvet). The pile fabric cannot be wet at all. Invite professional wet cleaning technicians to clean it. The rest of the fabrics should be handled with care to avoid clogging the pile, ruining the relief, and at the same time, removing the wine stains.
