How to remove the coffee stain from the sofa
How pleasant it can be to have a refreshing cup of coffee after a long day at work; however, this can have its consequences, for example, in the form of stains on the upholstery of the sofa. As practice shows, it is especially difficult to remove stains from natural coffee. How can you tackle this annoying nuisance on your own?
Removing fresh coffee stains from upholstery
If the upholstery is a microfiber material, coffee stains can be removed with your usual detergent: liquid hand soap, dishwashing detergent, etc., without compromising the integrity of the upholstery.
Steps:
- Remove the excess spilled coffee with a regular napkin or simply with a clean cloth.
- Next, you should dampen a cloth with warm water and thoroughly clean the surface of the sofa.
- To make the cleaning process more effective, it is advisable to apply a few drops of detergent on a well-wrung napkin and then wipe until foam forms.
- The excess detergent should be removed from the sofa cover after processing.
- It is recommended to wait until the upholstery is completely dry. If the coffee stain cannot be completely removed, use the tips to remove the dry stains.
Removing dry stains from upholstery
The following recipe is for stubborn coffee stains.
- First, clean the upholstery with a damp cloth or napkin.
- Then, dilute water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio. Treat the coffee stain with the resulting solution and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Remove the vinegar solution with a dry cloth. If the coffee stain is not completely gone, repeat the application of the solution.
- After the final removal of the vinegar solution, completely dry the surface of the upholstery. To more effectively remove the coffee stain, moisten a separate cloth with isopropyl or regular ethyl alcohol, apply it to the upholstery for a few minutes, and then gently rub the surface. After the alcohol treatment, it is recommended to clean the sofa upholstery with water at room temperature. All work should be done with special rubber gloves; after cleaning the upholstery, it is advisable to ventilate the room.
Coffee stains on leather furniture
In the case that coffee has been spilled on a leather surface, in most cases, it is sufficient to clean the upholstery with a damp cloth. It is advisable to use warm water. If the stain is quite old, add a little mild detergent to the water (you can buy leather upholstery shampoo at hardware stores). Avoid using non-specialized products, as they can destroy the integrity of the grease layer of the leather coating, resulting in an unsightly appearance of the furniture. In such situations, you should clean the damaged area of the sofa with a stearin sponge, which restores the protective layer. Stearin is an organic product made from a mixture of fatty acids; it is a translucent, oily mass to the touch, widely used, in particular, for making soaps, candles, etc. On the surface of leather upholstery, stearin creates a thin film that protects the furniture from micro-damage and discoloration. However, it is not always possible to deal with coffee stains on the sofa on your own; therefore, in the case of severe contamination, we recommend using the services of our dry cleaner: highly qualified professionals will properly remove the stains from the upholstery of your furniture at home.
